  • Salary: £26,000 to £28,000
  • Location: Diptford, near Totnes in Devon
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8am–4pm), including a paid lunch break.
  • Working arrangements: Office-based, with some flexibility after probationary period.
  • Experience: Graduate or at least one year's related professional experience.

About the opportunity

We believe that great marketing is all about creative ideas, and a curiosity for understanding the wonderful ways people behave. It also needs people who can turn those ideas into action.... and that's where you come in.

You'll work closely with our Head of Marketing, helping deliver activity across our eCommerce business, trade stockists and international partners. Along the way, you'll learn about customer behaviour, marketing psychology and the emotional connections people have with our brand. From social media, content and email marketing to community management, direct mail and new character launches, it's a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting things done.

There are plenty of opportunities to contribute ideas, develop your skills and gradually take ownership of projects, making a real difference along the way.

What would you be doing?

There's plenty of variety at DCUK, but we've grouped the main responsibilities into five areas:

1. Digital, eCommerce and social media

  • Work with related colleagues on content and promo activity across our retail and trade websites.
  • Co-ordinate banners, landing pages, seasonal content and other digital marketing activity.
  • Assist with social media content, scheduling and creative assets, working with external agencies.
  • Ensure our content, imagery and messaging remain accurate and consistent across channels.

2. Email marketing and customer communications

  • Help plan, build, and schedule email campaigns using Klaviyo, across retail and trade markets.
  • Co-ordinate campaign content, imagery, offers, and email schedules with colleagues.
  • Monitor results, suggest improvements, and gradually take ownership of regular email activity.

3. Marketing coordination, brand and creative projects

  • Maintain marketing calendars, project schedules, briefs and deadlines, keeping activity on track.
  • Brief designers, copywriters, photographers and suppliers, from initial idea through to delivery.
  • Support printed and digital projects, including catalogues, point of sale and other brand materials.
  • Organise marketing assets, follow up on outstanding work and help maintain brand consistency.

4. Product launches, character projects and campaigns

  • Assist with the planning of new range launches across retail, trade, digital and social channels.
  • Organise product information, photography, creative assets and promotional materials.
  • Support seasonal campaigns, collections, partnerships and special development projects.

5. Reporting, customer insights and improvements

  • Prepare basic marketing reports and track performance across email, eCommerce and campaigns.
  • Support customer insight activity to help us better understand what makes our customers tick.
  • Suggest improvements and ideas for marketing activity, processes and ways of working.
  • Assist with occasional PR, exhibitions, trade events and other marketing projects as needed.

Who are we looking for?

We're open to appliations from recent graduates, or anyone with at least a year of relevant marketing experience. You don't need to know everything, as we're more interested in your attitude, curiosity and willingness to get things done.

We're looking for someone organised, proactive and happy to take responsibility. Someone equally comfortable contributing creative ideas, checking artwork or chasing a supplier. Above all, we'd love someone who's curious about people, what makes them tick and why certain gifts, characters and messages make them smile.

What sort of skills are needed?

Essential qualities

  • Organised, proactive and happy to get stuck in, juggling priorities and seeing things through.
  • Takes ownership, uses initiative and cares about getting the details right.
  • Curious about people, customers and life in general.
  • A confident communicator who works well with others and isn't afraid to ask questions.
  • Comfortable with digital tools, spreadsheets and learning new systems.
  • Creative, commercially minded and happy to turn a hand to different tasks.
  • Own transport is essential, as our Diptford office isn't accessible by public transport.

Useful, but not essential

  • A relevant degree or some experience in marketing, eCommerce, or project management.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Klaviyo, Canva, website platforms, Excel or modern AI platforms.
  • Experience with organising projects, events or creative work through college or personal life.
  • An interest in marketing psychology, customer behaviour and what influences people's decisions.

Hopefully that sounds like you, but what about us?

We're the Original Wooden Duck Company, or DCUK to our friends.

Based in Devon for over 20 years, we create individually hand-carved and painted wooden characters, from Ducklings to Puffins, Frogs, Penguins and more.

Our mission is to spread smiles and joy through thoughtful gifts that create connections and lasting memories. Sold online and through retailers across the UK and around the world, our international success has been recognised with a prestigious King's Award for Enterprise.

We love creative ideas, positivity and enthusiasm in our working day. But we also need people who can make things happen. So, if you're curious, organised and enjoy seeing a job through from start to finish, we'd love to hear from you.

Interested? Here's how to apply.

As well as sending over your CV, we'd love a short introduction please, telling us a little about yourself, why the role appeals to you, and what you think you'd bring to DCUK.

There's no need for a formal covering letter or pages of detail, as just a few thoughtful paragraphs will do. We're just keen to get a feel for your personality, interests and enthusiasm.

Please include the introduction summary with your application, as we'll be reading through these when considering shortlising.

You can send your CV and introduction to Steve Manser, our Head of Marketing. His email is: [email protected].
