It’s a Duck Thing: Meet DCUK Collector, Sarah

Naturally, we grow very fond of our hand-crafted characters. Our greatest hope is that someone will love them as much as we do! So hearing from collectors like Sarah Jones means the world to us. Inspired by her love for all things duck, Sarah’s collection is made up of gifts from family and friends – her very own love-filled flock.

From a fledgling fascination to a flock of fourteen

“My collection started from a love and hyperfixation on ducks,” Sarah tells us. “I first started loving ducks during a show at Malvern's Three Counties Ground, where not only was there duck herding, but there was also a stall of your DCUK painted ducks as well as other duck-themed items. I have collected ducks ever since. I love that there are so many different species of ducks, with each looking unique. They also have some really cool facts, and there are lots of funny news stories about them!"

“DCUK was perfect, giving each one a name and little outfit. Many of my dcuks have actually been gifted to me by family and friends, when people around me gradually learnt about my love for them.” In fact, Sarah’s very first duck was a gift. “My grandmother gave me my first dcuk three years ago for Christmas, and from there I started to collect more.” Since then, her friends and family have been helping her grow a sizeable flock! “I was gifted many for my birthday and Christmas. In total, I have fourteen DCUK characters so far; however, I will definitely want to get more!”

The woodland creatures who conkered her heart

When we asked Sarah which duck was her favourite, we were very happy to hear her choice – and even happier that she’d picked not one duckling, but a very special pair!

“My favourite dcuks are definitely my Woodland Folk Ducklings pair that wear an acorn and a conker as a hat. They are both so perfectly crafted and beautiful as a pair to look at.”

As you’ll know, ducks are very sociable creatures and even the shyest amongst them enjoy a little company. Our Woodland Folk Ducklings are a true celebration of nature, craft, and storytelling, and we’re delighted to hear how happy Sarah is with hers.

A tradition of memory making

“One particular dcuk that holds sentimental value to me”, Sarah tells us, “is one of the wild mushroom dcuks. On holiday in Wales with my family, I spotted him in one of my shops – and later that day, my dad had brought him back for me.”

We love the way ducks can preserve precious memories and connect us to special places, moments and people. And now, Sarah has continued the tradition begun by her dad and grandmother. “I’ve bought Christmas dcuk ornaments for several family members,” she shares, “as I thought they were so cute and full of Christmas spirit – fitting my family members well.”

Sarah Shared a quacking Shelfie

Sarah proudly displays her DCUK collection on two shelves in her bedroom. “The first holding duckys and the second ducklings. This is also where I can display other duck-themed things.” Each piece holds a special place in her heart, and she has her eye on another: “My ultimate dream DCUK character would have to be the country life duckling due to its cute little green waistcoat and brown cap.”

As her collection continues to grow, Sarah shares a heartfelt message: “Thank you for taking an interest in my collection. I really love and value your company and look forward to getting more in the future.” The feeling is mutual, and we’re very grateful to Sarah for sharing her wonderful flock with us.
